Marie was born in the midwest and fell in love with the huge vistas of the farmlands near her hometown of Davenport, Iowa. Her love of art led her to study at The Art Students League of New York, and then Italy where she studied art history as well as studio art. Marie has studied with Joe Anna Arnett, Sherrie McGraw, Gregg Kreutz, Nancy Bush, and Michael Workman.
After concentrating on painting still lifes, she ventured outside to paint in the Plein Air tradition. This is when she discovered her love of painting landscapes. The diffused, tonal quality in much of her work makes her style recognizable. She travels to paint and is constantly photographing the world around her, looking for that special atmosphere that makes her want to capture it on canvas. She also paints pet portraits of cats and dogs on commission.
Marie is an accomplished fly fisherwoman who lives in Colorado and Texas.
