I CREATED MY NEWEST WORKS BECAUSE OF MY FASCINATION IN HOW COLORED BLOWN GLASS SHINES AND REFLECT BACK ONTO THE WALL OR SHELF WHEN LIT, GIVING A 3 DIMENSIONAL HALO EFFECT.

I BEGAN TO EXPERIMENT WITH ALCOHOL INKS, A VERY HIGHLY TRANSLUCENT AND PIGMENTED MEDIUM, TO SEE IF I WOULD GET SIMILAR RESULTS TO BLOWN GLASS IF I PAINTED IT ONTO PLEXIGLAS. I LEARNED THAT POURING ALCOHOL INKS ONTO PLEXIGLAS PANELS AND ADJUSTING THE PANELS TO BLEND AND SPREAD THE INK INTO UNIQUE PATTERNS GIVES THE PIECES DEPTH AND TRANSPARENCY. THE PAINTING TECHNIQUE INVOLVES A REVERSE PAINTING STYLE, WHERE THE FIRST COLOR THAT I APPLY IS THE FIRST THE VIEWER SEES. THOUGH A CERTAIN AMOUNT OF PLANNING GOES INTO THE PROCESS, SERENDIPITY ALSO PLAYS A LARGE PART IN THE FINAL DESIGN. THIS SENSE OF SERENDIPITY SHINES FROM THE RESULTING WORKS, AS WELL AS A SENSE OF FREEDOM AND EVEN DELIGHT THAT INSPIRED THE CREATIVE PROCESS. THE PLEXIGLAS PANELS ARE DESIGNED TO REST A SHORT DISTANCE FROM THE WALL, ALLOWING LIGHT TO PLAY THROUGH THE PAINTING AND TO DRAW A SECOND IMAGE OF ITS OWN TO SCINTILLATE BEHIND THE FIRST TO GIVE A 3 DIMENSIONAL EFFECT.

MY PAINTINGS ARE VIBRANT WITH COLOR AND LIGHT, AND I WANT THE VIEWER TO EXPERIENCE THIS VIBRANCY, AS WELL AS THE FREEDOM AND JOY INHERENT IN THE CREATION OF MY WORKS.
