As a self-taught artist, I use bold color, several layers of resin, vintage photography (sometimes) and other forms of mixed media to create art that has been called "whimsical, sometimes deep, and always honest." The many layers of paint and resin on the canvas create depth within the painting and symbolically reflect back the many layers of our lives...because after all, our layers are where the juicy stuff is, right? At the heart of my work is a call to all to live unapologetically in our own truth. My process involves journaling and meditating before any paint touches the canvas, which sounds a little woo-woo, but that's where the magic happens. Afterwards, using my gut/intuition as my guide, I make marks, write, and layer paint while letting go of what the final result may be. Oh, this may sound easy, but as anyone (me) with control issues will tell you, this is the hardest part. At the end of the process, I have expressed something greater than myself, yet extremely authentic and honest.
Whether the painting is pure abstract or infused with vintage photography, the work is a bold expression of my voice as an artist and as a woman. The hard-won lessons of my life, and sometimes the downright hilarious ones, reveal themselves in my work in unexpected ways. When I get out of the way and let my intuition guide the work, crazy fun and deep stuff happens on the canvas that has even me shaking my head.
